Highlights from Preview 2020 (2008)
Preview 2020, held October 31-November 2, 2008, in National Harbor,
Maryland, provided mind-stimulating extras this year in addition to a
healthy mix of learning opportunities in both business and clinical
practice. In this national election year, the conference featured an
overview of the health care policy proposals of presidential candidates
John McCain and Barack Obama, presented by health policy specialist
Jeanne M Lambrew, an associate professor at the Lyndon B Johnson School
of Public Affairs at the University of Texas and a senior fellow at the
Center for American Progress.
In a town hall meeting conducted by APTA CEO John D Barnes, with
assistance of board member Laurita M Hack, PT, DPT, MBA, PhD, FAPTA,
participants discussed future directions for the physical therapy
profession and APTA.

participants they will find a wealth of evidence-based knowledge in
seminars that can help them provide more effective patient care. |

Strategic Planning Initiative and responds to participant questions.

Steven H Tepper, PT, PhD, conducts a session on physical therapist
management of peripheral occlusive artery disease, which included a
demonstration of ultrasound procedures. |

During a balance and falls lab practice session, Susan L Whitney, PT,
PhD, NCS, ATC, FAPTA, (right) demonstrates use of the canalith
repositioning maneuver in testing for benign paroxysmal positional
vertigo, with co-instructor Laura Morris, PT, NCS, playing the role of
patient. Participants later practiced this and related procedures. |

Jennifer Wilson, PT, MBA, introduces the Individual Business
Professional Development Portfolio workbook designed to help
participants determine their business "fit" and assess the business
development needs of their practices. |

Small group discussion was an integral part of sessions on best business
practices and business strategy for physical therapists. |
