Donors Fulfill Campaign Pledges Despite Economic Downturn

Despte the economic downturn since the Foundation's major gifts campaign concluded in June 2008, 96% of donors who pledged toward the campaign's $5,067,930 have been able to fulfill their pledges according to schedule.

Pledges paid since the campaign began in 2006 through December 30, 2008, totaled $1,253,165, just short of their projected $1,304,465. Most pledge payments are being fulfilled over several years through 2014. The largest bulk of the payments are due this year and next. See the Campaign Contribution chart.

The campaign, Destination: Research Excellence, Roadmap for the Future of Physical Therapy, raised $5,067,930 in gifts, pledges, planned gifts, and bequests. That includes: $1 million from APTA, $875,000 in Planned Gifts; a $526,923 bequest; and $2,666,007 in pledges. Gifts were made from a avariety of donors including:  APTA members, sections, chapters, corporations and grateful patients. See the complete list of campaign donors.

In a recent communication, Foundation President Rich Shields thanked campaign donors for making their pledges a priority during the difficult economy and market.

During the campaign, 6 endowments were created. Named endowment funds are established with a minimum $100,000 that serves as a permanent balance. Interest earned on the balance is used to make grants. They are:

Also during the campaign, several sections made pledges and gifts to add to their existing funds. Those funds are:

The Private Practice Section also pledged $100,000 to create a non-endowed research fund. The entire fund is available immediately to fund a research project that will be determined by the Section and the Foundation.
