Donors Fulfill Campaign Pledges Despite Economic Downturn
Despte the economic downturn since the Foundation's major gifts
campaign concluded in June 2008, 96% of donors who pledged toward the
campaign's $5,067,930 have been able to fulfill their pledges according
to schedule.
Pledges paid since the campaign began in 2006 through December 30,
2008, totaled $1,253,165, just short of their projected $1,304,465. Most
pledge payments are being fulfilled over several years through 2014. The
largest bulk of the payments are due this year and next. See the Campaign Contribution chart.
The campaign, Destination: Research Excellence, Roadmap
for the Future of Physical Therapy, raised $5,067,930 in
gifts, pledges, planned gifts, and bequests. That includes: $1 million
from APTA, $875,000 in Planned Gifts; a $526,923 bequest; and $2,666,007
in pledges. Gifts were made from a avariety of donors including:
APTA members, sections, chapters, corporations and grateful patients.

In a recent communication, Foundation President Rich
Shields thanked campaign donors for making their pledges a priority
during the difficult economy and market.
During the campaign, 6 endowments were created. Named endowment funds
are established with a minimum $100,000 that serves as a permanent
balance. Interest earned on the balance is used to make grants. They

add to their existing funds. Those funds are:
The Private Practice Section also pledged $100,000 to create a
non-endowed research fund. The entire fund is available immediately to
fund a research project that will be determined by the Section and the
Foundation.
