Becoming a Protégé

Interested protégé should consult the directory and contact those members they feel might provide a good mentoring match. In making this selection, protégés should be clear about their own professional goals and career objectives as they relate to the mentoring experience. Further, protégé should be able to articulate their expectations to the prospective mentor. Keep in mind that several conversations and/or meetings may need to take place before both parties are confident in committing to the match. Again, all participants should remember that the mentoring relationship is a voluntary process, and a protégé's first choice may not always be available. In such instances, protégés are encouraged to return to the directory to look for additional mentors with profiles that also may meet their needs.

This program is an APTA member benefit: protégés will be asked to login before accessing the online mentoring directory.
