Course Description
This two day course is designed to provide participants with an
introduction to the Neuro-IFRAH principles of management and a practical
application of these principles to increase function. Participants will
be able to apply the information learned in a variety of treatment
settings including acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation,
home care, and skilled nursing facilities. This course will consist of
interactive lecture and hands on lab. Lab sessions will emphasize the
development of patient handling skills through working with other
participants. Information will be shared by lecture, lab and possibly
using video or other visual aids.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the basic principles of management of the Neuro-IFRAH
approach.
- Identify handling guidelines related to the Neuro-IFRAH
approach.
- Identify concepts related to the framework for normal movement.
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal movement in function.
- Identify the missing components of movement that are interfering
with patients' abilities to function at a higher level.
- Apply handling techniques to help attain the missing components of
movement that are interfering with functioning at higher levels.
- Integrate concepts related to normal movement, principles of
management, handling guidelines, and handling techniques into ADLs and
other functional activities.
Speakers
Michelle Denning, PT, graduated from St. Louis University
in 1996 with a BS in physical therapy and a master of science in health
systems administration from Georgetown University in 2006. Michelle has
extensive experience working in the acute, acute rehab, subacute and
home health areas, maintaining a focus on neurologically involved
patients, specifically those affected by a CVA or TBI. In 2007, Michelle
was invited by Waleed Al-Oboudi, the originator and author of the
Neuro-IFRAH approach to train to become an instructor. Michelle is
currently a Candidate-Instructor in Neuro-IFRAH and is working on her
Neuro-IFRAH Instructor certification by April of 2009. Michelle is a
member of the DC Chapter of the APTA and is licensed to practice
in DC and Virginia. Michelle is currently the director of rehab for a
SAR facility in Arlington, VA.
Jeanie Henrion, OT, graduated from Eastern Michigan University
in 1999 with a BS in occupational therapy. Jeanie has worked in acute,
acute rehab, and outpatient therapy with an emphasis on treating the
neurologically involved patient, primarily those affected by a CVA. In
2006, Jeanie became Neuro-IFRAH certified and has since completed the
Neuro-IFRAH advanced courses for the shoulder and fine motor concepts.
Jeanie is currently a candidate instructor in Neuro-IFRAH
training under the originator and author of the Neuro-IFRAH approach
Waleed Al-Oboudi and will complete her training as a Neuro-IFRAH
instructor in April of 2009. Jeanie is licensed to practice in Illinois
and is currently working for Healthsouth and Swedish American Hospital
in Rockford, Illinois.
Educational Credit
This continuing education program meets the criteria for four (14)
contact hours (1.4 CEUs).
