Expert Speakers:
Susan Nedza, MD, MBA, FACEP, is the Chief Medical Officer,
Region V of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the
Chicago office. The region serves the states of Minnesota, Michigan,
Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Dr. Nedza is a graduate of the
Stritch School of Medicine, and is board certified in emergency
medicine. She is a graduate of the Executive Master's Program of the
Kellogg Graduate School of Management of Northwestern University. Dr.
Nedza served in the role of Medical Director, Division of Emergency
Medical Services, for the Illinois Department of Public Health until
2002. She has expertise in the area of performance measure development,
medical error reduction, and ED overcrowding. She has recently served on
technical expert panels for the Physician Consortium on Performance
Improvement, Qualis QIO, and as an advisor to the JCAHO on the
development of performance measures. She has spoken internationally
about the implementation of practice guidelines and moving toward
evidence based practice. Dr. Nedza currently holds a faculty position on
the Research Faculty, Division of Emergency Medicine at the Feinberg
School of Medicine of Northwestern University.
Rhea Cohn, PT, DPT, has been APTA associate director of
reimbursement since 1996. Cohn regularly interacts with payers on the
national level, is the staff advisor to the CPT Editorial Panel,
represents APTA on the NCQA HCPAC Committee, and provides educational
programming to members and payers. She previously worked in a managed
care organization for 4 years performing claims and documentation review
and assisting with case management of catastrophic injury cases.
Kenneth Harwood, PT, PhD, is presently the Director, Practice
Department for the American Physical Therapy Association. In this role,
he oversees Association efforts and activities designed to improve and
enhance the state of physical therapy practice. Formerly, he was the
Associate Director and Assistant Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy
at the Columbia University Program in Physical Therapy. He earned a BS
degree in Physical Therapy from SUNY @ Downstate Medical Center and MA
and PhD degrees at the New York University's Program in Ergonomics and
Biomechanics. He became Certified Industrial Ergonomist in 1998. Dr
Harwood has published and presented widely on the field of Occupational
Health and low back pain care and prevention.

Beginning July 2007, physical therapists who bill for outpatient
physical therapy services in private practice settings and other health
care practitioners can obtain a 1.5% bonus payment if they report on
quality measures. Find out the details on how to qualify for the bonus
payments and the latest developments on this program, referred to as the
"Physician Quality Reporting Initiative."
CMS official Susan Nedza, MD, MBA joins Rhea Cohn, PT, DPT, APTA's
associate director of reimbursement, and Ken Harwood, PT, PhD, CIE,
director of APTA's practice department, to tell you what you need to
know about the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative for 2007. During
the Q & A session following the presentation you may ask your
questions directly to the experts.
Upon completion of this audio conference, you will be able to:
- Evaluate whether your practice should participate in the
program.
- Identify the quality measures that apply to your practice.
- Adapt your practice to collect data to report on the quality
measures.
- Modify your billing to incorporate the codes used for quality
reporting.
- Recognize how quality measures are developed.
