APTA President's Invitation
Advance physical therapist practice by having your
postprofessional clinical residency or fellowship program nationally
recognized by APTA.
Dear Colleague:
I'm proud to announce that the American Physical Therapy Association
now credentials postprofessional clinical residency and fellowship
programs! I invite you to submit your application for credentialing
your clinical residency or fellowship program and earn APTA's mark of
excellence.
Future physical therapy practice reinforces the need for
standardization. Postprofessional clinical residency and fellowship
programs are one of the primary means of positioning physical therapists
for the practice needs of the future. We need physical therapists who
demonstrate superior postprofessional clinical skills, advanced
knowledge in an area of clinical practice, and the ablility to function
as consultants, advocates, and educators for their peers and
patients.
Your clinical residency or fellowship program will be credentialed if
it meets the standards for organization, resources, curriculum, and
performance measures. These outcome-oriented standards have been
extensively reviewed by your peers and are consistent with other
national health care residency and fellowship credentialing programs. We
encourage you to use the application process, including these standards,
to benchmark your existing or developing clinical residency or
fellowship program.
The profession of physical therapy will be well served with the
establishment of APTA-credentialed postprofessional clinical residency
and fellowship programs. Thank you for your support of this initiative.
I hope your program will join the other credentialed programs that are
recognized for achieving this level of excellence!
Sincerely,

R Scott Ward, PT, PhD
