| GENERAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: |

| The DPT program begins in June and continues for 2.5 calendar years. Classes or clinical internships are conducted each academic term during the 2.5 years. |
| | | CLINICAL EXPERIENCES: |

| Students participate in four full-time clinical experiences and three part-time integrated clinical experiences during the program. The first full-time clinical experience is 6 weeks long and is held during the summer session following the first year of study. The second, also 6 weeks long, occurs in the summer following the second year of study. The final set of full-time clinical experiences is 16 weeks long, occurs during the final semester of the program, and consists of two different rotations. The University of Delaware maintains contracts with over 400 facilities around the country to provide these full-time clinical experiences. During the four full-time experiences, students are required to complete one experience in an acute care hospital setting, one in a rehabilitation environment, one in an outpatient setting and one experience is a practice setting of their choice. In addition, to the above full-time experiences, each student participates in three semester-long, part-time (two hours/three days per week) integrated clinical experiences. These part-time experiences include an outpatient sports and orthopedic experience in our teaching clinic, a pediatric clinic experience, and a geriatric clinical experience which may occur in our on-campus clinic. |

| There are 18 full-time and 12 part-time faculty members. All nine of the tenure-track full-time faculty members hold post-professional doctoral degrees. Seven full-time faculty members are certified as clinical specialists, two of which are certified in two specialties. Over the past 3 years, the faculty has averaged over 25 research publications per year in peer-reviewed journals. The faculty currently brings in over $3,000,000 in external research grant funding to the department per year. Most of this funding is from the NIH. The faculty to student ratio is 1:4.7. |

| The University of Delaware has a total student enrollment of over 20,000, with an equal graduate student population of men and women. The physical therapy program has an enrollment of approximately 32 students per class. |
| | | ADMISSION: |
|---|
| A baccalaureate degree, the Graduate Record Examination, three letters of recommendation, and a minimum of 100 documented paid or volunteer hours of clinical experience are required for admission to the physical therapy program. Prerequisite course work includes 3 semester hours in each: English, calculus, and statistics; 3 semester hours: physiology; 6 semester hours of psychology; and 8 semester hours in each: biology, chemistry, and physics. The mean grade point average of the last two classes was 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Applications will be reviewed from October 15 through January 15, or until the class has been filled. Application received by October 15 will be considered for a mid-November interview and an early admission. Individuals who are not interviewed or accepted will be returned to the applicant pool for a later decision. Similarly, applications received by December 1, will be considered for a mid-January interview and an early admission. A final decision regarding all applicants will be made by March 15. The deadline for applications is January 15. Approximately 35% of qualified applicants are admitted to the program (3-year average). |

| 96% of admitted students graduate from the program (10-year average). All students that have graduated from our program have passed the licensing examination. |
| | | TUITION, FEES AND FINANCIAL AID: |

| The 2004-05 approximate cost per full year for tuition, student health services, and student fees (including the Fall and Spring semesters, Winter session, and two Summer sessions) is $9994 for in-state students and $24,366 for out-of-state students. Approximately 75% of the students at the University of Delaware receive some type of financial assistance. A limited number of academic and need based scholarships and assistantships are also available. | All students currently enrolled in the DPT program live off campus within a very short distance from the campus. The University of Delaware is located in Newark, approximately 40 miles south of Philadelphia and 60 miles north of Baltimore. The Philadelphia International Airport is 35 miles from campus. There are many cultural and entertainment activities conducted at or very close to the university. There are also numerous academic and medical centers within a 1-hour drive from Newark. |
