| GENERAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: |
| The master's degree consists of 2 semester pre-professional and 2 years of professional full-time study. Upon successful completion of the graduate curriculum, the student is awarded the master’s degree and then must complete an 18-week postgraduate internship immediately upon graduation. Students have an option to enroll in a joint DPT with the University of California, San Francisco upon completion of the 18-week postgraduate internship. The joint DPT is a 34 semester unit, 9 month program with the majority of coursework at Fresno (25/34 semester units) and 9 semester units completed in San Francisco on weekends during the fall semester. During this 9 month program students will be able to work 3 days/week with the majority of coursework scheduled in the evenings and weekends. |
| | | CLINICAL EXPERIENCES: |
| Students have an 8-week full time practicum during the summer after the first year and a 4-week full time clinical practicum during the mid-semester break in the 2nd year. In addition, all students complete an 8-week clinical assignment in the university balance screening and fall prevention program during both professional years of the program. Upon completion of the 2 year profesional curriculum, students complete two full-time 9 week clinical practicums. Placements are in facilities located throughout the state. |

| There are eight full-time and thirteen part-time faculty members. 7/8 of the full-time faculty hold post-professional doctoral degrees, 5/8 are engaged in clinical practice. Over the past 3 years, the faculty has averaged four publications in peer-reviewed journals. The full-time faculty to student ratio is 1: 6. |
| | | ENROLLMENT: |
| The university enrolls more than 22,000 students of diverse culture, gender, and age. The physical therapy program accepts 20 students in the fall of each year. |
| | | ADMISSION: |
| The application deadline for the professional program is November 15. Students are admitted to the program in the fall. Students must hold a baccalaureate degree in another field and meet the prerequisites in order to apply. Prerequisites include 3 semester hours of statistics, , 3 semester hours of psychology; 8 semester hours each of chemistry and physics; and 5 semester hours of human physiology. Students must attain a grade of C or better in each course, an overall prerequisite grade point average of 3.0 and an overall grade point average of 3.0 in the last 60 semester units. Additionally, students must have at least 100 hours of volunteer observation in a physical therapy setting, 50 of which must be in a general in-patient setting. | | | TUITION, FEES AND FINANCIAL AID: |
| Tuition and program fees for the 2007-08 academic year were approximately $6,004 for residents and $13,620 for nonresidents. Room and board fees were extra. Tuition is subject to change. Financial aid is available through the Office of Financial Aid. The department of physical therapy also offers several limited scholarships through the student club and community donors. Several local facilities offer forgivable loan contracts. The program also operates a Cooperative Education Program for students interested in working part-time in local physical therapy departments. The joint DPT is self-support and therefore students are not eligible for financial aid duirng the third year. The cost for the joint DPT is $8,000/quarter or $24,000. |
| | | STUDENT LIFE: |
| California State University, Fresno offers limited dormitory housing however, all fraternities and sororities offer housing, and there is a plentiful supply of off-campus housing available with a wide range of rental prices. Athletic programs are abundant, including intramural recreation. Fresno, located 60 miles from Yosemite National Park and 45 miles from Sequoia National Park, is within driving distance of the ocean and mountains providing recreational activities that include skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, river rafting, cycling, swimming, and fishing. |
