APTA Job Opening: Senior Director

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS

The senior director will:

  • Lead strategies, policies, and initiatives associated with human resources activities for the entire organization. Including employment, recruiting, compliance, labor relations, training, benefits, and employee services in support of making the organization a great place to work. Specific emphasis on strategic role in ensuring that staff members are able to conduct their work as effectively and efficiently as possible
  • Participate in meetings and discussions of the Senior Staff Team (the senior staff executive body) on the management of the organization, with specific focus on ensuring that the organization has in place the most effective personnel systems to deliver the organization's strategies. Will participate in strategic discussions on how to best achieve the work of the association
  • Ensure that the organization can attract, motivate, develop, and retain great talent through effective resourcing, training and development, performance management, and reward strategies
  • Act as a coach and source of advice on performance and development issues and intervening where necessary to improve management and team effectiveness
  • Implement organization-wide initiatives in areas such as organizational development, professional development, compensation system, title system, benefit system, etc
  • Implement and apply human resource processes, policies and standards that match the cultural environment. Recommend and champion change to policy and procedures where appropriate
  • Ensure the individual and collective relationships between and among staff members are healthy, open, and collaborative
  • Serve as an objective resource for staff and independently review employee issues and bring to resolution
  • Manage human resources department and human resources staff

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • 10-15 years in professional level related position
  • Association background in human resources preferred
  • PHR or SPHR Certification preferred
  • Fluent in the organizational concepts and dynamics of change
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated competency in leadership and management
