The APTA Board of Directors appointed the CIEB in November 1996 to oversee and manage the voluntary process of APTA clinical instructor credentialing. Responsibilities of the CIEB include:
- Maintain current policy and procedure manuals for the CI Education and Credentialing Program and the Train-the-Trainer Course to include mission, goals, purpose of the education and credentialing program including participation of individuals outside of physical therapy in only the CI Education Program, the Train-the-Trainer Course, and the renewal of Credentialed Clinical Trainers,
- Periodically review established criteria for experienced clinical educators to determine comparable competence in lieu of taking the CI Education Program and to determine readiness to complete the Assessment Center component,
- Periodically review established procedures for credentialed Clinical Trainer renewal and revise as needed,
- Assess the ongoing fiscal viability of the program and make recommendations for change as necessary,
- Periodically assess and modify the CI Education and Credentialing Program and the Train-the-Trainer course to maintain validity, reliability, and congruence with language used in APTA documents,
- Monitor and evaluate participation of persons from other US disciplines in the CI Education Program,
- Address administrative functions associated with the CI Education and Credentialing process, Train-the-Trainer Course, and renewal of Credentialed Clinical Trainers, and
- Recommending fees associated with this process.
