Description: In 2009, APTA developed a strategic plan with a five-year planning horizon to move us most efficiently toward Vision 2020. The plan comprises six elements—addressing such issues as education, access, and payment—with each consisting of a strategic outcome and supporting objectives. The sixth element of the plan relates to standards for practice. The strategic outcome states that "Evidence-based practice principles will be routinely identified, applied, and integrated in physical therapist practice." The objectives related to this strategy are that:

  • Physical therapists' use of evidence-based practice principles in clinical decision-making will increase.
  • And the appropriate use of applicable evidence-based principles in clinical problemsolving by the physical therapist assistant will be described and promoted.

This module is a tool to increase your use of evidence-based practice and underscores the importance that APTA ascribes to this issue.
