Description: On October 1, 2011, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will implement new rules that will have a significant impact on physical therapy in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). The fiscal year 2012 SNF Prospective Payment System (SNF PPS) final rule contains new requirements for physical therapists on how to document and provide group therapy in the SNF setting as well as the introduction of a new patient assessment called the Change of Therapy (COT) Other Medicare Required Assessments (OMRAs). In addition, the final rule contains new policies regarding student therapists' supervision, clarifications for End of Therapy (EOT) OMRAs, and elimination of distinctions between 5-day and 7-day facilities.

CMS Director of Institutional Post-Acute Care Sheila Lambowitz, along with SNF expert Ellen Strunk, will provide critical information about Medicare's new SNF coverage policies and will provide practical information to PTs and PTAs on how these new policies will affect everyday clinical practice. During a Q & A session following the presentations, participants may ask questions directly to the experts.
