Description: There are nearly 14 million cancer survivors in the United States today. And as the number of patients who receive compassionate care grows, so too will the community of survivors who triumph over their health, wellness, and functioning challenges.
The Institute of Medicine identifies cancer survivorship as a distinct phase of the cancer trajectory—one requiring an ongoing health strategy. Physical therapists encounter cancer survivors in every setting, are uniquely qualified to identify the sequelae of cancer, and can be key contributors to the cancer survivorship team.
Find out why cancer survivorship is a chronic disease and which musculoskeletal and functional needs are most common to cancer survivors, and explore your important role to the well-being of this patient population.
