Description: In 2010, Congress passed comprehensive legislation into law that is transforming the delivery of health care. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PL 111-148) will be implemented over the next decade and will provide coverage for up to 95% of all Americans and attempt to improve quality, access, lower costs, and re-shape the health care workforce. What does health care reform mean for physical therapy practice, payment, and professional issues? Will physical therapy survive or thrive in a reformed health care system? How will clinicians, business owners, rehabilitation managers, and patients navigate this changing health care system?
This presentation/webinar provides an annual progress report on the implementation of health care reform and the opportunities and challenges for physical therapists as a follow up to webinar each year since President Obama's signing of the Affordable Care Act. This session will look at policy provisions specific to rehabilitation, including reforming payments, health care delivery, and workforce reforms with a focus on policies set to be implemented in 2013 or early 2014 such as bundled payment methodologies, the health care insurance exchanges, and Medicaid expansion. The presentation will include how health care reform initiatives address issues such as fee schedule updates, therapy caps, integrated delivery systems, and prevention and wellness.
