Description: In 2010, Congress passed comprehensive legislation into law that is transforming the delivery of health care. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will be implemented over the next decade and will provide coverage for up to 95% of all Americans and attempt to improve quality, access, lower costs, and re-shape the health care workforce. What does health care reform mean for physical therapy practice, payment, and professional issues? Will physical therapy survive or thrive in a reformed health care system? How will clinicians, business owners, rehabilitation managers, and patients navigate this changing health care system?
This presentation provides an overview of the implementation of health care reform and the opportunities and challenges for physical therapists in a post-reform environment. This session will focus on policy provisions such as accountable care organizations (ACOs), bundled payment methodologies, the health care insurance Marketplaces, Medicaid expansion, and fraud and abuse initiatives. (Recorded March 14, 2014)
