Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC)
The Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative promotes collaboration in health and education. Members include educators, policymakers, health providers, students, and citizens who are committed to changing the health care system for the better in Canada. Information about this organization's core activities is informative in learning how interprofessional collaborative structures can advance interprofessional education, collaborative practice, and research.
Collaborating Across Borders IV
CAB IV is the 4th joint conference in a series that links Canada and the United States around interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional practice (IPP). It builds upon the highly successful CAB I (University of Minnesota, October 2007), the CAB II (Dalhousie University, May 2009), and CAB III (Tucson, AZ, November 2011) meetings where educators, clinicians, researchers, policy makers, and students engaged in productive dialogue regarding interprofessional education, practice, and research. CAB IV will continue to focus on the themes of interprofessional education, practice, leadership, and policy in a North American context. The conference will feature best practices, showcase evidence-based outcomes and lessons learned, and provide a venue for scholarly dialogue and productive networking. Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Health System for the 21st Century
This is the second in a series of publications from the Institute of Medicine's Quality of Health Care in America project. Crossing the Quality Chasm makes an urgent call for fundamental change to close the quality gap and recommends a sweeping redesign of the American health care system and provides overarching principles for specific direction for policymakers, health care leaders, clinicians, regulators, purchasers, and others.
Genomics/Genetics Curriculum (Core Competencies)This is the 3rd edition of Core Competencies in Genetics for Health Professionals based on the National Coalition for Health Professions Education in Genetics. The document reflects the experiences of those who have used the Competencies. The 2nd edition of the Competencies, published in 2005, highlighted the widespread use of these Competencies by health professionals around the world integrating genetics and genomics into a broad array of educational programs.
Interprofessional Education (IPE) Portal
The new IPE PORTAL, released December 2012 by the Association of American Medical Colleges, advances interprofessional collaborative practice education. High-quality, peer-reviewed, competency-based learning modules for interprofessional health education are now available through a new innovative online portal launched by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC). Based on Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice, these materials are designed to provide tools to prepare tomorrow’s health professions work force for interprofessional, team-based, patient-centered, and community- and population-oriented care. Funding support was provided by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC). The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) is a national organization connecting health professions for better care. The IPE PORTAL collection is open for submissions. Interprofessional Professionalism Collaborative
The Interprofessional Professionalism Collaborative (IPC) is comprised of 10 health care profession organizations and one assessment organization of which physical therapy is a member. This group is working to develop a "toolkit" to include a glossary of terms related to interprofessional professionalism, resources/references on this topic, and a mechanism to measure and assess interprofessional professionalism.
Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) – Core Competencies
The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC), spearheaded by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and consisting of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Dental Education Association, Association of Schools of Public Health, and the AAMC, jointly sponsored an expert panel to recommend core competencies that would prepare learners in the six professions for interprofessional collaborative practice. The panel delivered a report which was released on May 10, 2011. Physical Therapist professional programs may wish to review and consider how these competencies could be included within their curricula.
PT 2011 Preconference Course: Interprofessional Professionalism: All Aboard!
This preconference course is now available online in the APTA Learning Center! This one-day interprofessional course targeted various health professions' faculties to facilitate and advance Interprofessional Education within the academy. You will have an opportunity to learn from renowned experts in the field on Interprofessional Education (IPE), gain practical lessons and insights from four US academic institutions (Thomas Jefferson University, University of South Florida, St Louis University, Western University) that have implemented Interprofessional Education, and design strategies to implement and enhance IPE within your academic institution!
Team-based Competencies: Building a Shared Foundation for Education and Clinical Practice
This is a companion report to the IPEC Core Competencies whose development was sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration, Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation. This report was the result of a conference held in February 2011 to preview the core competencies presented by IPEC, and to create action strategies that would use them to "transform health professional education and health care delivery in the United States." Physical therapist professional programs may wish to review and consider how these team-based competencies could be applied in bridging education and clinical practice communities.
