Course Description: This hands-on, interactive workshop is ideal for individuals and organizations interested in developing or re-credentialing a clinical residency or fellowship program. Learn about business and financial models that have been successfully implemented in credentialed residency/fellowship programs around the country. Innovative organizational and financial models used to address the credentialing criteria will be explored to demonstrate how a clinical residency/fellowship can fit your unique practice situation. Learn how to avoid the common pitfalls during program development and credentialing. Following a brief presentation, Program Directors, Administrators, members of the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education, and APTA Staff will be present to assist you in completing integral parts of your program's credentialing application.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you'll be able to:
- Justify the rationale for a postgraduate clinical residency or fellowship that includes a discussion of the benefits and challenges the program can bring.
- Market a clinical residency/fellowship to administrators and to potential residents/fellows.
- Create successful mission, goals, and objectives for a clinical residency/fellowship program.
- Assemble the necessary resources for the development of a clinical residency/fellowship including the development of partnerships and consortia.
- Identify program faculty required to run a successful program.
- Formulate a budget and establish a cost/benefit profile of a clinical residency or fellowship program.

Following a brief presentation, Program Directors, Administrators, members of the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education, and APTA Staff will be present to assist you in completing integral parts of your program's credentialing application.

- Identify major content areas in the Program's curriculum and their relationship to the DSP/DASP or practice analysis.
- Develop an example of a typical weekly schedule for the resident or fellow that meets organizational and financial requirements of the umbrella organization.
- Draft an outline of the overall sequencing of content in the Program's curriculum (didactic and clinical) with a rationale behind the organization and sequencing of the curriculum content.
- Assemble the necessary resources to fulfill all curriculum requirements.
- Identify key components that must be included within each course syllabi.

- Identify expectations before, during, and after the site visit.
- Explain the differences between the various ABPTRFE credential statuses.
