The Public Service Award recognizes public servants who have enhanced the profession of physical therapy.
Eligibility Requirements
Nominees may be from the following groups:
- Members of Congress or their congressional staff
- Members of a state legislature or executive branch
- Federal agency officials
- Health or legislative association staff external to APTA
- Celebrities or other public figures who have contributed to the profession of physical therapy in an area of clinical practice
Peer and posthumous nominations are accepted for this award.
Submission Requirements
Nominations must be submitted by one of the following:
- Component president
- Component executive
- Members of APTA's Public Policy and Advocacy Committee
The nominator must submit a nomination statement (nomination statements are 300-words) to begin the process.
The nominator is responsible for the following:
- Submitting nominee's current curriculum vitae or resume
- Completing an online application (application questions are 500-words)
Providing other supporting documentation, such as support statements (support statements are 300-words), detailing why the nominee should receive the award.

The nominations call for the Honors & Awards Program is open from Sept. 1 to Dec. 1. Nominations must be submitted through APTA Achieve by Dec. 1; late submissions will not be considered. Selected recipients and their nominators will be notified in May.
