ALEXANDRIA, VA, August 24, 2017 — APTA has signed an agreement with the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy (Academy) to collaborate on the creation and integration of a Congenital Muscular Torticollis Module into the Physical Therapy Outcomes Registry (Registry). The module will be based on the Academy's clinical practice guideline (.pdf) on the topic.
A Registry module is a condition- or disease-specific set of data elements to describe and risk-adjust process of care and clinical outcomes for a defined patient population, beyond the standard patient data. In torticollis, this includes neck movement and functional limitations, torticollis severity, and prognostic factors. Analyzing a large amount of such data will help describe typical physical therapist (PT) practice patterns, variations of those practice patterns, and associated outcomes.
"This is the Registry's first module agreement with an APTA section or academy, and we look forward to more such collaborations in the future," said James Irrgang, PT, PhD, ATC, FAPTA, scientific director of the Registry's Scientific Advisory Panel. "Modules provide a continuous feedback loop not only for physical therapists but for guideline developers."
The Physical Therapy Outcomes Registry, a CMS-approved qualified clinical data registry (QCDR), enables PTs to make improved, data-informed clinical decisions, track and benchmark outcomes against industry data, and demonstrate the value of PT services to payers and fellow providers. It directly integrates with multiple third-party electronic health record (EHR) systems to seamlessly and securely transfer data to an unprecedented database of patient episodes.
