Statement by APTA President in Memory of Jody R. Billingsley, PT

August 7, 2009

On behalf of the members of the American Physical Therapy Association, we must express our shock and sadness at the senseless shootings at the LA Fitness Center in Collier Township, PA, on August 4. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and colleagues of each of the innocents who were slain. We particularly wish to remember and honor physical therapist and APTA member Jody R. Billingsley, PT, whose candle burned especially bright in her lifetime of 37 years. She was a truly capable and compassionate individual who "walked the walk" and touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

As a physical therapist, Jody was a member of a profession that heals where others would harm, a profession that helps people rebuild their lives. May her family and those who knew her as well as the families, friends, and colleagues of the other shooting victims receive the healing they need in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

APTA President R. Scott Ward, PT, PhD
