Cathy H. Ciolek, PT, DPT, GCS (Wilmington, DE)
I am an APTA member because the opportunities to serve my patients are limitless due to all I have learned with my membership!
My APTA membership has paid for itself more years than not, with access to high-quality continuing education and the latest research in our field. The member discounts for local chapter and national events have allowed me to participate in continuing education that presents the newest advances in our profession.
Attending CSM and answering a call for state liaisons from the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy (formerly the Section on Geriatrics) early in my career provided networking opportunities that changed the course of my career and allowed me to share my passion for working with older adults with future physical therapists.
Additionally, I know that the communications I receive from APTA with calls to action on legislative and regulatory issues have allowed me to impact the payment we get for physical therapist services. In turn, this allows me to provide better care for my patients without having to deal with denials that take time away from patient care.
I believe in APTA's vision for changing society. Each meeting I attend and each issue of PT in Motion energizes me to be a better physical therapist.
I am able to keep up-to-date on the research within physical therapy through PTJ, and with evidence-based practice guidelines and content from PTNow.
The practice of physical therapy has changed substantially since I graduated from PT school 25 years ago, and APTA helps me stay on top of current best practice to better serve my patients and educate my students.
