APTA member C. Frits Hunsel, PT, LMBT, recently received a Golden Apple award from Health Volunteer Overseas (HVO) for his efforts in Suriname as a "tireless promoter of physical therapy." In particular, Hunsel helped establish a physical therapy program at Anton de Kom University, located in Suriname, which has expanded into a master's program. The master's program is a "remarkable achievement in a country with limited resources and academic personnel," says HVO.
Hunsel previously served as the Ohio Chapter's membership chair, a member of the Advisory Board for Youngstown State University's physical therapy program, and a board member of Ohio Physical Therapy Network. A co-founder of Access Physical Therapy Ltd, he currently is an owner of Access Massage & Wellness and a member of the medical team for the Raleigh RailHawks, a professional soccer team.
HVO's Golden Apple awards recognize the extraordinary educational contributions of volunteers to international program sites. Each HVO volunteer honored with the award has demonstrated a strong commitment to HVO's educational mission by working on curriculum development, teacher training, didactic or clinical training, or the enhancement of educational resources.
