New CMS Web Site Designed to Improve Quality of Health Care and Inform Consumer Choice

As part of the federal government's overall effort to improve the quality of health care delivery, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) launched a new Web site, Quality Care Finder, at www.Medicare.gov/QualityCareFinder, as a single location from which patients and their families can link to resources that can inform their decisions about health care. A variety of quality measures also is available for facilities, including patient experience data, outcomes data for specific conditions and readmissions, patient safety measures, and process-of-care measures that help ensure patients are getting all recommended treatments for specific conditions such as asthma.

Additional features of this new Web site include:

    • 1-stop shopping for information on hospitals, nursing homes, home health care, and more
    • Updated Hospital Compare data for the time period July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2010
    • New volume and cost data for hospitals for selected conditions
