In Recent Trends in Emergency Department Care, Lisa TenBarge, PT, DPT, shares how she began a program offering physical therapy services in the ED of Flagstaff Medical Center in Flagstaff, Arizona. She also discusses the 7 leading primary diagnoses that PTs may evaluate in the ED and the opportunities available for future growth of this practice area.
Michael Lebec, PT, PhD, summarizes the benefits of having a PT in the ED in Value of Physical Therapy in the Emergency Department. Lebec, who practiced in the ED at St Joseph’s Carondelet Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, and now is on faculty at Northern Arizona University, discusses the types of services that PTs provide in EDs—from educating patients to providing interventions and discharge planning.
