Are You An Innovator? Funding, Support May Be Available

APTA members who are taking new approaches to models of care now have an opportunity to receive funding and mentoring through a new program offered by the association, but submission deadlines are soon.

APTA's Innovation 2.0 program will offer up to $150,000 to support innovation in service delivery and payment in a wide range of areas from the integration of physical therapy into collaborative care models to management ofpatients and clients that focuses on reducing hospital readmissions. The complete list of proposal areas can be found on APTA's Innovation 2.0 webpage.

Interested candidates begin by submitting a letter of intent to APTA Innovation 2.0 staff by January 20. The letter should include contact information for the project leader, name of the organization, and a brief description of the model. The formal call for proposals will begin January 17 with a February 13 deadline.

Successful recipients will attend a workshop May 8-9 to discuss their projects and receive feedback from researchers and other clinicians. Finalists will receive funding and in-kind services from APTA to pursue the projects.

Innovation 2.0 builds on the success of APTA's 2013 Innovation Summit, a groundbreaking event that brought together physical therapists, physicians, large health systems, and policy makers to discuss the current and future role of physical therapy in integrated models of care.

What level of detail is requested? Any project/idea can be explained in a paragraph, but also with an eight page letter. I have a long history of handing in the wrong assignment. Thanks! Packy

The letter of intent should have the basic information such as your name, contact information and 2-3 sentences describing your project. A detailed submission form will be available on January 17 for your formal proposal.

Dear Innovation Staff, The e-mail supplied with this page failed several times so here is my project: I am working on a specific software product that is designed to capture self-reported patient data used for Federal quality reporting (some PQRS data and all Functional Reporting G-code data) via secure HIPAA-compliant e-mail. Some samples of Medicare-aged persons show an 80% utilization rate of computers, including desktop, laptop and mobile devices for receiving e-mail and inputting their response. The application will be expected to aggregate the self-reported data for sharing with ACO and VBP providers who will be required to report this data to Medicare for Stage 3 Meaningful Use reimbursement. Physical therapists' clinics who use this application (available by subscription) will be in a stronger position to negotiate for an increased portion of the ACO gain sharing by providing this aggregated data. You can see an early prototype with dummy data at http://stage.gtherapyportal.com/login Use username richtim63 and password Cervelo.58 to play with the dummy data. Let me know what you think. Thank you, Tim
