  • New NICU Resources Available

The latest addition to the APTA website helps to provide physical therapists (PTs) with resources on physical therapy in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), the source of medical care for more than 3% of all infants born in the US.

Although not intended to provide PTs with everything they need to know to practice in the NICU, the webpage does include information on roles and training, a list of resources, and links to relevant journal articles.

    • Thank you for these resources! My employer has requested we place new graduates in the NICU. These are useful tools to advocate for advanced competencies prior to independent practice in the NICU.

    • In the second sentence on the web page you use the words "very preterm". Perhaps that is some neonatal medical jargon that I am not familiar with. (In other words is that a thing?) Seems like maybe we could quantify the term by using gestational time/age to make this description more clear to ourselves and the public?
