Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS)

In December 2008, CMS implemented an online process for Medicare enrollment through the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS). This process allows most providers and suppliers to enroll in the Medicare program or make changes to their Medicare enrollment information via the Internet rather than through the paper form. The online enrollment process is designed to simplify the enrollment process for providers and suppliers as well as reduce the time it takes for a contractor to process the Medicare enrollment application.
