Medicare Coverage in Provision of Fitness Services

When providing services to improve the physical fitness of patients or clients, you will need to consider if an Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) should be used. An ABN must be given when Medicare is expected to deny payment (entirely or in part) for the item or service because it is not reasonable and necessary under Medicare program standards or because it is considered custodial care. Review the ABN form and additional information on the use of an ABN.
