More than 250 physical therapists (PTs), physical therapist assistants (PTAs), and physical therapy students gathered at the Oklahoma State Capitol on March 11, 2013, to advocate for legislation that would improve patient access to physical therapy services in Oklahoma. HB 1020, which would provide Oklahoman's access to physical therapy services without a referral, passed out of the House Calendar Committee by a vote of 13-4 on March 11. This was the first time a direct access bill has passed out of committee to become eligible for consideration by the full House of Representatives. While HB 1020 was not brought forward for a vote in the House by the March 14 deadline for bills to move forward this session, it does remain a viable bill for further consideration during the 2014 legislative session. The hard work of all of those involved produced one of the most impactful days in Oklahoma chapter history.
