PTs, PTAs, and students should understand requirements for supervision and teamwork.

APTA has numerous resources on the appropriate use of personnel.

You should review information on state licensure and practice acts, as the requirements for the use of personnel vary widely from state to state.

When you review the regulations for your state, look carefully at the definitions for the different physical therapy personnel covered and how supervision is defined and applied.

APTA also has several policies related to supervision:

- Levels of Supervision

- Direction and Supervision of the Physical Therapist Assistant

- Interventions Performed Exclusively by Physical Therapists

- The Role of Aides in a Physical Therapy Service

- Student Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant Provision of Services
