The following activities, events and resources will help you get involved with advocacy efforts to support the physical therapy profession and the patients it serves.

Annual Events & Activities

  • Federal Advocacy Forum (includes PT Day on Capitol Hill)

    This annual event is designed to increase your knowledge of federal issues and teach you how to effectively lobby members of Congress.

  • Federal Government Affairs Leadership Award

    The nomination process for this award is now closed. The nomination period for 2014 will open in December 2013.

  • Public Service Award

    The nomination process for this award is now closed. The nomination period for 2014 will open in December 2013.

  • State Policy & Payment Forum

    This annual event is designed to increase your involvement in and knowledge of state policy issues that have an impact on the practice of physical therapy, and improve your advocacy efforts at the state level.

  • State Legislative Leadership Award

    This award recognizes the work of an individual APTA member on behalf of a component's state legislative efforts in a given year.

  • Student Advocacy Challenge

    The Student Advocacy Challenge was created to inspire PT and PTA students to get involved in advocacy on the state and federal levels. Participating in the Challenge will help students to learn more about the legislative process and to become more aware of the issues facing physical therapy in the legislature.

Getting Involved

  • Grassroots Toolkit

    This toolkit was created to encourage APTA members to learn more about the legislative process and become actively involved in advocating for their profession.

  • Host a Practice Visit

    APTA's Practice Visits Initiative guide provides valuable advice on how to arrange, conduct, and follow up on a successful practice visit.
