PT 2009: The Annual Conference and Exposition of the APTA,
June 10, 2009 - June 13, 2009
Abstracts of Papers Accepted and Presented

Message from the Editor in Chief of Physical Therapy

One of the most important aspects of Annual Conference is the opportunity for clinicians and researchers to discuss their work with each other and, by doing so, to help bridge the gap between research and practice. This database contains abstracts of papers accepted for presentation at PT 2009. They reflect the diversity in our profession, both in research and practice. I encourage you to look through these abstracts, attend the sessions, and discuss the work with the presenters.

All these presentations at PT 2009 will be made in a poster format.

I congratulate the presenters on their hard work and encourage them to submit manuscripts for potential publication in Physical Therapy or other peer-reviewed journals.

Editor in Chief

How to Read and Access the Abstracts

Codes in the abstract identification numbers are “PO” for Poster Presentation.

“TH,”or “FR,”=Thursday and Friday, respectively. Presentations were submitted as Research Reports “RR”, Special Interest Reports “SI”, or Theory Reports “TH”. Example: PO-100-TH-FR = Poster of a Theory Report to be presented on Friday.

Research Abstracts were screened by APTA’s Committee for Screening Abstracts for inclusion of the following: purpose, background/significance, subjects, methods and materials, analyses, results, conclusions, and funding source. Theory abstracts were screened by APTA’s Committee for Screening Abstracts for inclusion of the following: theory, phenomenon, purpose, evidence, testable hypotheses, importance, and funding source. Special Interest abstracts were screened by APTA’s Annual Conference Program Committee for inclusion of the following: uniquness, purpose, foundation, description, observations, conclusions, and funding source.

The schedule of abstract presentations is made available to attendees in the on-site program, which is indexed by presenting author only. The identification numbers that appear with the abstracts on this Web site are identical to those in the on-site program.

Readers should contact authors directly with requests for copies of papers or for details of their presentation.

Abstracts can be accessed through the following indexes:
