In virtually every capitol building across the country, the practice of physical therapy is facing greater threats and opportunities than ever before. APTA state chapters and members from across the country face unique challenges and circumstances that require the latest information and most effective advocacy strategies. Learn what new policy issues are emerging in the statehouses this year and the strategies you can use to prepare for the challenges ahead. Explore the formulation of federal health care policy in legislation and regulation and how physical therapy can shape those policies to reflect the profession's Vision. Catch up on the latest developments on critical federal issues and the outlook for new policy issues in 2009.
Upon completion of this course, you'll be able to:
1) Recognize the issues and legislation in your state capitol that can affect your practice. 2) Understand the political environment that is influencing the development of health care policies both local and national. 3) Communicate with your elected legislators and advocate effectively for policies that will protect your practice and benefit your patients. 4) Anticipate what actions Congress will take this year and how your practice will be impacted.
