PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The mission of the University of Mary Department of Physical Therapy is to prepare autonomous and collaborative practitioners who are leaders in service through evidence based practice, education, and scholarly activity for the profession of physical therapy. The University of Mary is also known as America's Leadership University where we lead through service. Therefore, service-oriented education via projects and service learning activities are prevalent throughout the program. We have two pro-bono clinics, one at the United Tribes Technical College and one at the University, which are managed by the students and serve patients and clients who cannot afford physical therapy. In addition, we have an optional service learning experience in Guatemala with the God's Child project during the 3rd year. Students have established the Home Run Heroes, a baseball team for children with disabilities. This was featured in May 2009 PT Magazine. Faculty all have doctorate degrees and many years of clinical experience among them. Even though the mission of the University is teaching, PT faculty have a record of several publications in peer-reviewed journals.
