PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Regis University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program offers you an outstanding education at a university known for its academic excellence and commitment to service learning. Your leadership, professional, and clinical skills will be our priority. At Regis University, physical therapy is about much more than strengthening weak muscles and improving range of motion. It's about treating the whole person.
The DPT curriculum focuses on an evidenced-based model, taught by our nationally recognized faculty who expose students to the most current clinical techniques available. That means you'll learn how to diagnose and plan physical therapy interventions that are personalized for each individual. The curriculum explores motor control and movement theory as foundation principles of physical therapy education. Students study movement and its effects on each body system and how it relates to physical therapy management across the lifespan. Extensive study of the foundation sciences is incorporated into the curriculum. Numerous faculty facilitated, small group activities are also included in the curriculum where in-depth clinical problems and issues are explored.
The DPT program is 110 semester hours of full-time study, offered in eight consecutive semesters over three calendar years. A total of 38 weeks of clinical experience is integrated within the curriculum. The School of Physical Therapy is affiliated with over 600 clinical facilities located throughout the U.S. and some abroad. During any one rotation, students are given choices within a subset of these sites. New clinical sites (delete sites, add instructors) are continually being added for new and varied experiences. During clinical experiences, students have the opportunity to integrate knowledge gained from courses and refine their skills in examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, outcomes, and communication with diverse populations. Students are expected to participate in one rural experience and one out-of-state experience to facilitate an appreciation for various practice settings.
Graduation requirements include completion of a research project and capstone portfolio. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are awarded a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and are eligible to take the national physical therapy licensure examination. This degree prepares students to be autonomous general practitioners equipped with the necessary tools to practice physical therapy in a dynamic health care setting. 100% of all licensed DPT graduates are employed within six months of graduation, in many cases, looking at multiple offers and often accepting positions prior to graduation.
And all this in a setting that allows you to enjoy the cultural aspects of a big city and the abundant outdoor adventure that Colorado has to offer! Become a leader in physical therapy at Regis University!
