The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research (FPTR) is a national nonprofit that funds physical therapy research and an affiliate of APTA. This internship is for a 10–12-week temporary employment opportunity totaling up to 37.5 hours per week for undergraduate or graduate students interested in gaining experience in nonprofit healthcare communications and marketing.

Principal Functions

Working directly with the communications team, this opportunity will provide a student with the chance to gain experience across several areas, including fundraising, research, and communications. Examples of responsibilities include assisting staff with event promotion, drafting social media content to promote initiatives and accomplishments, working with Scientific Programs to update reporting for research funding, monitoring social media channels, drafting email content, and general communications support as assigned. The internship will also support administrative duties and will work with the fundraising and research team.  

Qualifications

Applicants must have education, experience or interest in communications, nonprofits and/or healthcare. Knowledge of social media tools (i.e. — Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) is necessary. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, be able to work independently and have experience working with Microsoft Office programs. Some graphic design knowledge is preferred by not necessary. The ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment is highly critical for this internship.

Preferential consideration will be given to applicants considering a career in the physical therapy field or to current students enrolled in a physical therapy or physical therapist assistant program.

Physical Demands

The internship will occasionally include work in the evening and weekends. Internships with FPTR are an excellent way to gain relevant experience towards a career in nonprofit communications and general professional development.
