Physical therapists continue to be at the table for important discussions around the development of CPT codes: APTA members Kathleen Picard, PT, DPT, and Stephanie L. Woelfel, PT, DPT, board-certified wound management clinical specialist, are serving as advisor and alternate advisor with the American Medical Association’s CPT Health Care Professionals Advisory Committee.
APTA member Jonathan Morren, PT, recently finished his term as an alternate advisor with the same committee. Also known as CPT HCPAC, the committee plays a key role in the development and maintenance of current procedural terminology codes.
Picard has been reappointed to serve in the capacity of APTA’s Primary Advisor to AMA’s CPT HCPAC. A 2025 Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association, Picard operates Picard Consulting LLC, a physical therapy consulting firm focused on compliance.
Woelfel, president of APTA Academy of Clinical Electrophysiology & Wound Management, was appointed as APTA’s Alternate Advisor to the same committee in June 2025. She is the director of clinical physical therapy for hospital outpatient services at Keck Medical Center of the University of Southern California.
Morren ended his tenure with CPT HCPAC after a successful three-year term as APTA’s Alternate Advisor. He currently practices in an outpatient setting with WellSpan Health-York Hospital, in York, Pennsylvania. APTA thanks him for his dedication and service to APTA during his tenure.
"Representing the physical therapy profession in the development of CPT codes is a demanding and critical effort, and we are pleased to have such talented and dedicated APTA member participants,” said Wanda Evans, PT, DPT, MHS, senior health policy and payment specialist at APTA. “APTA is grateful to these members and all those who have served in the past for their commitment to these very important roles."
