Feb. 14, 2022: APTA's Centennial Scholars program was one of the highlights of 2021, connecting APTA components, physical therapy thought leaders, and a diverse group of up-and-coming association leaders to learn about association leadership and develop projects focused on the future of the profession. The spirit of that endeavor lives on in 2022 — and now's your chance to participate.

We're now accepting applications to the APTA Association Leadership Scholars Program through Feb. 28. Similar to its predecessor, the 2022 program is focused on developing a diverse pool of potential APTA leaders through training, mentoring, and the completion of a capstone project. The program runs from March through December. You can submit your application through the APTA Engage volunteer portal.

Like the centennial program, this year's scholars will be required to participate in virtual learning experiences and attend two in-person events, with travel and lodging provided by APTA. This year, however, APTA is directly sponsoring all scholars, albeit fewer than in 2021 — 20-25, compared with last year's 100 scholars sponsored by APTA components, affiliate organizations, and the association itself. APTA will also determine the number and types of projects, which could include carryovers from 2021 projects, or projects that involve more than one scholar.

Once selected, scholars will be paired with mentors and together, offered an opportunity to review and select the list of capstone projects available. Scholars, mentors, and APTA will then collaborate on designing the project.
