Health care ethicist and physician Edmund Pellegrino links Ortega's claim to health care ethics by claiming that "each of us is engaged in a personal project to fashion a life of our own out of the circumstances in which we find ourselves. [In circumstances of illnesses, injuries, impairments, or disabilities] each person confronts the realities of his unique situation and humanizes it, attains his equilibrium with it."
