APTA supports Medicare private contracting for PTs
Some health care professionals are allowed to "opt out" of the Medicare program and privately contract with Medicare beneficiaries. PTs aren't among them. This needs to change.
Why It Matters
Medicare private contracting allows both patients and PTs more flexibility in providing care that is truly patient-centered.
Our Position
The American Physical Therapy Association strongly supports the Medicare Patient Choice Act (H.R. 4204), legislation that would enable physical therapists to privately contract with Medicare beneficiaries. H.R. 4204 was introduced by Reps. Lloyd Smucker, R-PA, and Don Davis, D-NC.
