House position: APTA supports and participates in workforce planning efforts with other stakeholders to meet the needs of the profession and society. The primary goal of workforce planning is optimizing access to physical therapist services to meet the needs of patients and clients through an appropriate specialty and practice mix and geographic distribution of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants. Effective workforce planning efforts include measures of supply, demand, and need.
