After reviewing invitations that included a bid from APTA on behalf of the United States, World Physiotherapy has announced that its 2027 meeting and congress will be hosted by AMEFI Colegio Nacional de Fisioterapia, Mexico's physiotherapy professional association.

The biennial event, WP's 21st general meeting, will be held in Guadalajara. This will be the first time WP has held its congress in its South American region. Dates for the gathering have not been announced. AMEFI Colegio Nacional de Fisioterapia has 621 members and has been a member of WP since 1970.

APTA submitted an unsuccessful bid to host the 2027 conference. If APTA's offer was selected, it would have been the third time the congress was held in the U.S., with preceding events held in 1995 and 1956. Currently, only the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands have hosted a congress more than once.

The next WP congress will be held in 2025 in Tokyo, May 29-31. It will mark the second time Japan has hosted the event.

APTA is one of 11 founding members of WP, formerly known as the World Confederation of Physical Therapy.
