2020 APTA Minority Scholarship Fund Award Recipient

Kellee shares her personal story.

My most memorable contribution to the profession thus far has been my role in the successful accreditation of a new DPT program at Indiana State University. It has graduated a class of outstanding clinicians who have already begun to positively impact the profession through clinical care and advocacy. I am now the leader of a team seeking candidacy for a developing DPT program at Lincoln Memorial University. I hope to build a program that graduates therapists who improve the quality of life for those in the Appalachian region and beyond.

Honestly, I cried when I first heard that I had received this award. I was in disbelief. My career in higher education has been great thus far, but I would be lying if I said that I have never let the thoughts of inadequacy or of being an imposter creep into my head. This award has helped me quiet those thoughts for the moment and refocus. I hope to show students and faculty who look like me that it is the knowledge that you possess and the passion that you bring to your profession that will allow you to not only survive, but also to thrive.
