Editor-in-Chief Alan Jette interviews Pamela Dunlap about the innovative application of technology in her recent randomized control trial, which used global positioning systems to compare a standard strength intervention to a standard strength plus coordination training intervention for enhancing the community mobility of 166 older adults.

For future studies, Dunlap advises researchers to examine individual barriers to mobility and to consider using wearable devices to track participation. Dunlap is author of the article “Effects of a Physical Therapist Intervention on GPS Indicators of Community Mobility in Older Adults: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial."
