Following UnitedHealthcare's Sept. 1 announcement eliminating 30% of prior authorization requirements for many of its plans, APTA reviewed the policy and found that commonly used physical therapy codes were not included among the reductions. APTA members raised similar concerns after media reports suggested physical therapist services were part of the changes. APTA subsequently engaged UHC directly to clarify the policy's application to physical therapist services and to advocate for future prior authorization requirements.
