American Physical Therapy Association President Sharon Dunn, PT, PhD, is dean of the School of Allied Health Professions and an associate professor of rehabilitation sciences at Louisiana State University Shreveport. She has been on faculty at LSU Shreveport for 24 years, in positions spanning chief physical therapist – instructor to program director of the DPT program and director of the Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency, for which she was instrumental in developing and gaining accreditation. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy. Dunn has been a leader for the profession not only in her current position as APTA president but also in previous roles, such as president of the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association. She also is a former recipient of the Allen A. Copping Excellence in Teaching Award, a nationally invited keynote speaker, and a peer-reviewed publisher of numerous scientific articles and posters. Dunn received her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and master’s degree in health sciences from the LSU Shreveport School of Allied Health Professions, and her PhD in cellular biology and anatomy from the university’s School of Graduate Studies.
