10-Meter Walk Test (10MWT) for Dementia, Alzheimer Disease, or Cognitive Impairment (Gait Speed)
What it measures:
Self-selected or comfortable gait speed (m/s) over a short distance,
Older adults with dementia or Alzheimer disease.
The Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy (a section of the American Physical Therapy Association) recommend the use of walking speed as an outcome measure for all older adults. (Fritz & Lusardi, 2009)
