When physical therapists and physical therapist assistants join APTA, they agree to follow the Code of Ethics for the Physical Therapy Profession.

If you believe that a member of APTA has violated the Code of Ethics for the Physical Therapy Profession, please file a complaint with the APTA's Ethics and Judicial Committee.

You can file a complaint by submitting the form below.

Complaints filed after Jan. 1, 2026, but arising from conduct that occurred under the authority of the previous Code of Ethics, may be adjudicated under the previous Code of Ethics for the Physical Therapist and Standards of Ethical Conduct for the PTA.

To complete the form, you will need to provide the name of the member you are filing a complaint about. You will also need to describe how the member's behavior violated the Code.

Do not submit complaints against entities, businesses, or institutions, as they are not members of APTA. Please submit one form for each individual you believe has violated the Code.

Only those complaints that allege that an individual member of APTA violated the Code will be eligible for review by the Ethics and Judicial Committee. Members are always given the opportunity to submit a response to a complaint filed against them. The Ethics and Judicial Committee will review only the information submitted with the complaint and the member's response and will make a decision in accordance with APTA's Disciplinary Action Procedural Document.
